Going viral

Wow, that was fun! Yesterday’s post with the full details and first pictures about the V12 Vantage Roadster went viral all over the internet!
First dutch car blog AutoBlog.nl picked it up, then TopGear.nl and dutch newspaper Telegraaf.nl. Soon car related sites all over Europe starting taking over the news and pictures. Later in the day, after WordCarFans.com posted the photos, it exploded all over the world. Today still more and more sites are replicating the big news 🙂

For me, this came completely unexpected. Being an Aston Martin customer who had previously expressed interest in a V12 Vantage Roadster, I already received these details and pictures about 3 weeks ago. With the note that it was all under embargo until July 2. So I patiently kept silent, keeping the news and pics to myself. In the meantime, preparing this site and an “it’s official” post containing all the pics, to be released on “launch day”.

I fully expected that, with the embargo being lifted yesterday, all car news sites would bring the happy news first thing in the morning. Assuming that Aston Martin would have sent out the press release already, with the same embargo date.
So I made sure my post was live early, hoping to get at least a small “scoop”.

But there had been no press release yet, neither did one arrive later on July 2. So my post went viral, referred to as the “leaked pictures” of the V12 Vantage Roadster. Some sites state that Aston Martin is planning a formal announcement later this week. Oh well, looks like the people in Gaydon will get double the publicity for this launch. You’re welcome, happy to be of service!

I must say though that I was surprised about the speed of distribution over the net and the way most sites just copied the news and pics, some word for word, without any fact checking whatsoever.

What if I had made it all up and added some photoshopped pics of a V12 Vantage with a chopped-off roof? Anyway, I am off to to register the RapideVolante.com domain.
And here’s the first “official” pic! How that’s for a scoop?
